Photomatix Manual Deghosting on Ortisei Walk

Hi and thanks for visiting my gallery page! These photos are from my travels (I travel a lot for work) - if you want to learn more about how I take these shots and who I learn from, visit http://www.runningronin.com.

Going through my old photos of Ortisei (more here and here), the skii resort town in Northern Italy, I just post produced another photo of its picturesque downtown area. This time around I used Photmoatix Pro's 4.0 semi-manual deghosting tool.

I'll go through the easy process in one of my next posts.

That said, as a quick initial review - its a really good fast substitute to doing layering in Photoshop. It however seems to select the most crisp image. So, while its great to nail people in place, its a bit less so if you want to give some feeling of movement.

Photoshop still is great for de-ghosting, but the process takes a ton of time. The Photomatix semi-manual system takes nothing more than a minute or so.

As for the details:

  • Shot with my Nikon D90
  • HDRed with Photomatix Pro 4.0 from a set of 3 photos
  • Straightened with ShiftN then recropped for a more square cropping.
  • Detail Enhanced in Topaz Adjust - Small Detail setting
  • Denoised in Topaz Denoise - Strong Raw setting
