Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary

Piazza di Torre Argentina, in the historical setting of the center of Rome, is known for the large amount of stray cats that inhabit the ruins at the center of the piazza. Rome is known as the "City of Cats" and this is one of the reasons why - right in Piazza di Torre Argentina there is a "no kill" Cat Sanctuary. It tucked to the side of the side of the ruins and run by a handful of dedicated cat lovers.

If you want to adopt a original roman cat with blood of the Caesars, you should check out their website. You can adopt for "real" or even from a distance! Cats get to roam the ruins here, and are confined only when sick and in need of special care. Plus, the whole "cat hospital" is really clean and well kept.

In the meantime, here are some photos I took during a brief visit.

As I said, the hospital area is very well kept and just for cats with special needs.

Above one of the volunteers is helping nurse the cats back to health.

And below is the area the cats normally live in - the ruins of Torre Argentina. And they are free to roam the place (and rest of Rome) as they like.
